Diagnose a Bad Phone

Take a known good working phone from another location in your office or home and switch it with the phone that is not working and see if the problem stays with the phone or the phone jack.

If you have static and noise on a phone hold the headset to your ear and shake the handset. If the noise changes, gets louder, or goes away you could possibly have a bad handset cable.
